SAR TRACKING TEST
This test is designed to determine if the K-9 team is capable of tracking an unknown human scent in an unfamiliar area. This test is to be closely simulative of working situations of the search and rescue K-9 team.
HANDLERS:
Handlers may use leads not less than 10 feet in length and no more than 30 feet in length. Tracking collars or harnesses are also permissible
TRACK LAYER:
The tracklayer will be unknown to the dog when possible. The tracklayer will receive instruction from the examining K-9 trainer for the method and direction that the track is to be laid.
TRACK:
The track will be 1500 yards in length. The track will continue on a hard surface (i.e., asphalt, concrete, gravel) for a distance of no less then 500 feet. The track will also encompass a wooded area and a residential neighborhood. The start of the track may be a scent article, footprint or motor vehicle. The starting point of the track is up to the discretion of the examining K-9 trainer. The track will also have at least (5) five turns in it and will be (1) one hour old. Two (2) cross tracks made by people will also be present in the track. The handler will not be told which direction that the track leads.
TIME:
The time limit for this test will be (75) seventy-five minutes.
This certification will be valid for one (1) year from the date of issue.
